Police Blotter 1/23-1/26: The Voices Belonged There; Asleep At The Wheel

This is Rutherford publishes incidents that the public may find interesting or informative. The Blotter represents a small fraction of the total calls the RDP responds to regularly. The following information was provided to TIR by the Rutherford Police. All suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Incidents involving juveniles will not be published.

 

Sunday, January 26 - Verbal Dispute, Chestnut St

At approximately 7:44 pm a 911 caller reported a verbal dispute between a 59-year-old female and a 41-year-old male over one of the parties retrieving their belongings from the apartment. The subject in question had already left prior to RPD arrival and the complainant was told to notify RPD if the person returns.


Sunday, January 26 - Verbal Dispute, Union Ave

At approximately 4:15 pm a 22-year-old Dominoes employee called to report a customer kept walking in and out of the business causing a disturbance. Officers responded and found the dispute was over an order and it was settled for the time.


Sunday, January 26 - Theft, Union Ave

A 53-year-old male caller reported that his purple Schwinn bicycle with whitewall tires and passenger bar went missing from the basement of his building between 5:00 pm on January 22 and 6:00 pm on January 25. He stated he kept 3 bicycles, two of which were newer than the missing one. He stated work had been done in his building during the time in question and the door to the area was unlocked.


Saturday, January 25 - Suspicious Person, Ames Ave

At approximately 11:07 pm a caller reported they heard voices inside a building they own which is supposed to be vacant. Upon investigation, responding officers learned that the owner had forgotten they had a new tenant and the person belonging to the voice was authorized to be there.


Friday, January 24 - Aid and Assist, Carmita Ave

A 45-year-old male Uber driver called to report his fare was giving him a hard time and made him drive around the block 3 times. The 57-year-old male resident who had hired the Uber had gotten out and arrived at his residence upon RPD arrival.


Friday, January 24 - Suspicious Incident, Union Ave

At approximately 12:38 am a 14-year-old male called 911 to report an unknown person knocking at the front door of his residence. Officers responded but found no one suspicious in the area. The youth stated he had heard some knocking on the front door but when he looked out the window no one was there.


Thursday, January 23 - Suspicious Incident, Meadow Road

At approximately 7:02 pm a caller notified RPD that they witnessed 2 children left in a running car in the Starbucks parking lot while the driver of the car was in the Starbucks. The vehicle had no license plates that the caller could observe and they watched the car leave southbound no Rt 17, at which point they called RPD, which checked the area with negative results.


Thursday, January 23 - Suspicious Vehicle, Rt 3 West

At approximately 4:41 am a caller reported a vehicle stopped in the roadway with the driver possibly asleep on the exit ramp between Rt. 3 and Edwin L. Ward Memorial Highway. RPD responded to find a 2017 red Fiat and performed a field sobriety test on the driver. The 44-year-old female from Maywood passed the field sobriety test and was issued a summons for delaying traffic.
