Muslim Heritage Month 2025

Information submitted by Ghazala Kanwal, Muslim Heritage Month Committee Library Liaison

In April 2023, Governor Murphy signed a joint resolution designating January as “Muslim Heritage Month.” The Muslim Heritage Month Committee has been working on various ways to educate people about the significant contributions made by Muslims. One of the best places to learn more is through our libraries, which are rich in resources and vital in engaging the community.

This year's theme is "Unity in Diversity". With so much diversity in Muslim culture, influences from countries from Central Africa to Persia, Scandinavia, China, and Southeast Asia are seen in food, entertainment, architecture, and much more.

On Saturday, January 11th, at 1:00 p.m., there will be an opportunity to try some food, chat, and learn more about Muslim culture and religion. The main floor of the Rutherford Public Library has a display filled with books by Muslim authors.
