And the winner of Chili and Brews is...

The Junior Woman’s Club of Rutherford hosted their 2nd Annual Chili and Brews on Friday, February 22nd at the Woman’s Club Clubhouse.

Guests were greeted by the aroma of 11 different kinds of chili at the event, which was chaired by Karen Marchetti and Kim Conti. The $35 admission fee allowed participants to taste test the various chilis and choose from a large selection of craft beers.

The winners of the chili cook-off were:
3rd place Giancarlo Sette “Stick To Yo Ribs” Chili
2nd place Beverly Khan “Caribbean Heat” Chili
1st place Genevieve Knapp Turkey Pumpkin Chili

The JWCR fundraises all year round and the money is kept in a general fund. In June, the money that was raised throughout the year is donated to many local organizations, including the Rutherford Fire Department, Rutherford Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Rutherford Public Library, Williams Center, Food Pantry, and Center For Hope and Safety, a battered women’s shelter in Bergen County. The JWCR also supports an annual state project. This year’s state project is CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates).

Special thank you to to the Elshikh family of IMA Taekwondo (formerly Sunrise) for hosting Parents Night Out at the same time as Chili and Brews, as many attendees brought their children there for the evening. IMA donated all proceeds back to JWCR, which was just over $500.

The beer was donated by Brooklyn Brewery and Newburgh Brewery. The generous owners of Mason’s Cellar also donated beer and ice.

The next JWCR fundraising event will be Breakfast With the Easter Bunny on March 31st. This event is co-sponsored with the Rutherford Elks Lodge. Proceeds will be divided equally between the two clubs.
