For over a year, the School of Rock in Carlstadt has provided programs for children and adults to express themselves through music. School of Rock musicians choose from programs where they can learn to write music, play instruments, sing, or perform publicly with other musicians. Owners, Dominique Abita and Dave Santamaria, have not only
introduced their students to the power of music and performance, they have also become active community and Chamber of Commerce members.
TIR: When did the School of Rock open?
Dominique Abita: School of Rock Carlstadt opened on August 7, 2023. We're a little over a year old!
TIR: School of Rock offers a variety of music programs for all ages. Can you describe some of those programs?
DA: We specialize in enriching lives through performance-based music education for all ages, even adults. From young group appreciation classes to 1-1 lessons and group rehearsals for beginners and more experienced players. We rehearse beginners in our Rock 101 program and the more experienced students in performance bands. We guide our students on their musical journey and provide them with live performance opportunities at local venues. We've even played on the Dream Stage at American Dream!
TIR: What makes you proud to own and operate the School of Rock?
DA: We are so proud to enrich the lives of those in our communities and to instill a love of music into all who come to our school. We also love being able to perform for the communities. It is so important to us to help develop the next generation of musicians to help others rediscover or cultivate a love of music.
TIR: The School of Rock has many events coming up. What can you tell us about them?
DA: We will be at various events in the community. Coming up soon, our House Band has two performances: September 21st opening for Mushmouth at Dining Under The Stars at 6:30 pm, our Adult Bands have a Summer Season show on September 22nd at Shawn's Crazy Saloon, and September 27th with other School of Rock House Bands at American Dream.
TIR: How does the School of Rock support the local community?
DA: We have sponsored events and donated sound and performances to events in the community. We have also donated lessons for various fundraisers. We are proud to be a member of the Rutherford Chamber of Commerce.
TIR: Anything else you would like to add?
DA: We are proud to sponsor this new rebirth of This Is Rutherford. It is so important to keep all of our local businesses connected and supporting each other. You never know what relationships you will create.
